INDUSTRIAL ROBOTIZATION

What is industrial robotics and how to get started.

What is industrial robotics?

Robotization with Schneider

Robotization is part of industrial automation and includes the implementation of industrial robots, cobots and related technologies for specific operations: gripping, moving, machine servicing, palletizing, dosing, inspection, welding, grinding, sorting, packaging and more.

The key is this: robotization is not a "robot in the shop floor", but a process solution - integrated with your machines, quality criteria, safety, part feeding and way of working.

When does robotization bring the best results?

Best results are obtained when the process is:
• repeatable and clearly measurable
• loaded and with constant volume
• with safety risk or severe ergonomics
• sensitive to human error
• a bottleneck in the stream

Most often we start with processes such as:
• pick and place
• palletizing and depalletizing
• machine tending
• bin picking
• screwing and tightening
• gluing, dosing and sealing
• grinding, polishing and cleaning
• welding and soldering
• inspection and quality control

Industrial robots, cobots and mobile robotics – the right solution

  • When there is a high cycle rate, larger loads or a more demanding process, we usually look to classic industrial robots. Mitsubishi Electric MELFA and Delta have strong solutions in this area – from high-speed pick-and-place applications to machine tending, palletizing and larger volume production cells.

  • When you are looking for flexibility, faster start-up and easier reconfiguration, cobots are often the better choice. ABB cobots, Dobot CR/CRA series and some of the more flexible robotic solutions on the market are well suited for small and medium series, assembly, turning, machine servicing, testing and light manipulation. Dobot is particularly interesting for projects where you want a quick entry into robotics with easy implementation and good repeatability.

  • When material flow is the issue, not just the operation itself, EffiBOT’s robotics and mobile automation solutions fit the bill. This is especially useful in environments where parts, pallets or semi-finished products need to move flexibly between stations, rather than simply being processed in one place.

  • Sometimes the smartest start is a more compact and affordable cell. Here igus is a very interesting choice with its low-cost automation – especially when you want to automate a limited, clear operation, validate a process or start in stages with less risk.

  • The right robot without the right gripper is half the solution. For gripper and EOAT concepts we often use SCHUNK, Schmalz, SMC and Festo – depending on whether the task requires mechanical gripping, vacuum, delicate handling, fast format change or more specialized kinematics. Schmalz is particularly strong in vacuum gripping, packaging, sheet materials and robotic handling. SCHUNK is a natural choice for high precision, reliable gripping and a wider gripper ecosystem. SMC and Festo often come in as very strong choices for pneumatic, vacuum and electrical components around the cell.

  • For robust robotization, we use solutions from SICK, ifm and Omron for sensor, machine vision, measurement and diagnostic data. SICK is very strong in safety, presence detection, vision and robotic applications. ifm is an excellent choice when you want richer diagnostics and an IO-Link layer. Omron is very useful where robot, vision and control have to work as a single system.

  • Behind a good robotic cell there is almost always a solid control and communication backbone. Depending on the case, we integrate robots into Siemens or other PLC/HMI/SCADA environments. We use Moxa when reliable industrial networking, protocol conversion or OT/IT connectivity are critical. Rittal is often the right choice for enclosures, air conditioning and a tidy physical infrastructure. And igus has a very strong role in robot cable management, energy chains and cable protection during dynamic movements.

  • A cell that is fast but inconvenient or dangerous is not reliable. That is why safety is always part of the design – with risk assessment, correct zones, safety logic, light barriers, scanners, interlocks and a setup mode.

Robotics + data = better solutions

When you add data to the robotic cell about cycle, downtime, stop reasons, number of parts, quality, energy and the condition of key components, you no longer manage by feel - then Industry 4.0, OEE and proactive maintenance become practically useful.

How we work

Process analysis
We look at the difficult spots, the variations, and the technical feasibility.
Concept
We select the robot, gripper, vision, part feeding and safety.
Integration and launch
We connect mechanics, controls and interfaces to existing machines.
Training and support
We train operators and technicians and stay for further improvements.

How to get started with minimal risk

The safest start is first robotization on an operation that is clear, measurable, loaded and standardizable such as palletizing, pick-and-place, turning and inspection.

When is it wiser not to robotize?

There are cases where you need to standardize the feed, clean up the flow, or undertake partial automation first. You can rely on our analysis for the best solution for each case.

Industrial robotics for your production

Industrial robotics is one of the fastest ways to increase capacity, stabilize quality, and relieve pressure on humans in heavy, monotonous, and risky operations. But successful robotics is not just about buying a robot. It involves a well-designed cell, proper grip, safety, integration, and most importantly, the right choice.

VMV designs robotics solutions for industrial clients in Bulgaria so that the robot is part of a working and reliably profitable process with: lower cost, less scrap, better predictability and a system that can be upgraded.
